Bender moveset complete and two more characters added to the mix!
Over the course of the week, I've managed to complete Bender's move-set which I'm very pleased about. There was no way I was leaving it there, however, so I've also been working on two other characters as well! It's been very fiddly and tiresome, but fun nonetheless, especially when it all comes together exactly how I want it to.
Who are these two new characters, you may be wondering? Well, I'll start with the third new addition...
Some say that during the COVID-19 pandemic, he stocked up on toilet paper, so he wouldn't go hungry... And that in his free time he likes to binge-watch shows on Netflix... backwards.
But what we do know is... HE'S CALLED THE STIG!!!!
Yes, the Stig from Top Gear will be in the game(well, his Chinese cousin anyway). I thought it would be good to include him as a more straight-forward fighter compared to the rest of the more outlandish cast. While designing his move-set, I experimented with the crouch kicks and decided to make his sweep attack combo into a roundhouse kick which knocks opponents back like other combo enders from Homer and Bender.
One of his specials is a somersault kick which can knock opponents back. I have made a mental note that this can be quite easily spammed at the moment so I'll need to make a cooldown instance for the move where he's vulnerable for a short period of time but I'd rather save that task for when I've got collision data for four/eight characters already done so I can copy them over from the regular player instances.
SIDE NOTE: One of the adjustments I'm going to make to the game is give players the opportunity to anti-air jumping attacks from opponents. The idea for anti-airs was brought to me by my games design tutor which I appreciate. I've retooled moves such as Homer's neutral special (which was pretty rubbish compared to his side special as he had to get very close for it to have any effect) where now it can knock back air attacks. I'm really hoping the knock-back state from the anti-air doesn't result in the character floating above the platform when landed like other air moves but I can only reliably test this with other people so I wait with baited breath on that.
Now for the fourth new addition... I'm adding Anakin Skywalker from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series!
He was a very fun character to work on as wielding a lightsaber gives him great move-set potential. I've shortened his regular combos so he can only do two hits compared to the rest of the cast but on the plus side, his light-saber deals more damage than regular attacks. Anakin's also the first character I've designed to utilise projectiles as he can throw his lightsaber at his opponent(Several lightsabers if you so wish, don't know how balanced this will be yet) I tried to give his neutral special the ability to reflect projectiles but I haven't got it right... yet but instead I've left it so if you time the Y button correctly, he can parry projectiles rather than getting knocked back using his shield and risk going off-screen to get electrocuted., a risk/reward mechanic, if you will.
I hope to get the collision data for all the characters moves sorted over the next couple of days so we can have different matchups instead of just mirror-matches like before. Then I'll release a playable prototype so you can try the game for yourself, stay tuned for that!
